Antiquity of Saivism

There are very many regions in this world.

Such as: – Saivam (Bhawaththam) Buddhism, Islam and Christianity

Among these regions Buddhism was formed by Gowthamapuththar before 2518 years.

Islam was formed by Mohamed Nabi 1394 years back Christianity was formed by Jesus Christ 1975 years back. Regarding Saivism the exact date for period of its beginning cannot be give n accurately because it was not formed by a single person or human being as the other 3 religions. So the time and name of its founder cannot be given accurately.

Lord Shiva is only present. He survives in all living beings there are so many ways and means to achieve the blessings of Load Shiva only Saivism can direct us to his almighty for certain period Lord Shiva allows the souls to live in the world with all sorts of comforts and discomforts.

But after a certain period he destroys all Thanu, Karana, Puvanam and allows all living beings to rest.

The after a certain period. He creates the world again and life starts in the world, where all living beings, live according to their former sins and good done during their former birth. In this stage one can’t clearly give an accurate day or date for the birth of Saivism.

We can’t easily find a period of the beginning stage of this religion, but we can point out the time and the day when people in this world were able to feel it is assistance, and power according to it for a certain level.

During ancient times, people were ignorant lacking in knowledge and did not have a stable residence wondering all about hunting wild animals for their living etc. Also they didn’t even realize the existence of God. As time passed, they involved themselves in agriculture and they were forced to stay in a permanent area. This was due to their job – I mean agriculture, gradually they learnt to do various jobs other than agriculture too. They learnt the habit of saving things for their future. As they stayed in an area permanently they had time to think about their future life. When things occurred favorably they felt happy and when they missed what they expected, they experienced sorrow.

They stayed in one place area, observed nature and its movements, and gradually came to the conclusion, that there exists a great power that controls nature and all natural changes. Then they started to name that great power as “God”. The great power and all dealings with this mighty power, as religion. “God Shiva” in Saivism.

Vedas, Aagamas and Puranas prove the seniority of Saivism. It is said that period of Veda is 5000 years back ; even before this period, Vedas ideas were found in comman says the great writer Nachinanarkkiniyar in his publication “Payiram”. It is Lord Shiva and Shiva alone is concerned with Vedas and Aagamas says all the past religious books.

Thus the thought of the great founder as his almighty began to impress the minds of the common people, they believed in His existence and started living a holy and pious life. They spent their time also in finding about the nature of God, what things they have to do in their life time to live a proper life etc. Some of these common crown lived in Sinthuveli Piradesam in north India the two famous towns, specially named as “HARAPPA” and MOHANCHATHARO in the north of India. They continued their research in this field and tried to improve on it.

This period can be considered as the Ancient period (ie) in other world initial period beginning of the beginning of Saivism. Religious researchers and historical evidences remains to prove the truthiness of these affairs. In short the through of Lord Shiva the great God and religious ideas paved the way to a religious and proper life of the common people.

Somehow or other Vedas and Puranas prove as the ancient originality of Saivism. The famous Puranam named as Thiruvilayadal Puranam, gives a beautiful and detailed description of Lord Shiva as blessings and activities to his devotees. Even the he so of the battle in Kanda Puranam Sooran who dared to oppose. The great Muruga and his followers were true and sincere devotees of Lord Shiva.

Again Ravana and Valli were great and sincere devotees of Lord Shiva. Even the hero of Ramayanam Rama, after ceasing Ravana worshipped Lord Shiva. Thus says Ramayanam. Rama has visited and worshipped Lord Shiva in Thirukoneshwaram Kurankaaduthurai and Rameshwaram.

On the other side Bharatham gives details describtion about Aruchchunan’s Thalayathirai to the above mentioned holy temples of Lord Shiva. In returns, he was blessed by Lord Shiva with the powerful Pasupathasthiram which was much helpful to him during the so called continuous wars mentioned in Ramayanam.

Aruchchunan also made a holy voyage with Lord Kanna Piran to Lord Shiva’s holy residence, “Thirukailasam”.

All ancient hermits were found sincere devotees of Lord Shiva the ancient. The Chola King named Muhuthan brought to light the worship of Shivalingam in all famous holy places such as Kassi, Kaalathil, Thirukailai, Kaanchi, Chithambaram, Thiruannamalai and Madurai. These temples were specially mentioned as “Sivathalankal”. According to Archeological researches done in “Sinthuveli”, Shiva worship goes back to a period six thousand years back. Also the particular word “Lingam” is used by people lived in Australia and New Zealand. The signs of Siva worship were also founded Sumatra, Java, Pornio. Idols of Lord Shiva were also found among the ruins found in Seeyam and Cambodia. Also it is to be mentioned here that in the religion named as Japansyandoins instead of that term “Shiva” was pronounced as “Shiva” – The latter word was familiar among the above mentioned people. Perhaps this particular word “Shiva” must have paved its way from Tibeth and China to Japan.

In Babylonia too, the remains of Shivan temples and Shivalingam were found. The Sumerians named God as “El” This very term “El” in Tamil Language means the “Sun”.

In Syria brass ways were found in this Lord Shivas images were carved as seated on a Bull. In Sinnasia the images of Shivan and Sakthi temples were engraved on coins also.

In Egypt idols of Shivalingam found on the walls of the grave yard. The name of the green grass land found in one of the deserts in Libya is “Shivan” Here even now Shiva worship and Hindu temples are found there. In the island of Greece there is a place names “Shivan” where idols of Shiva and Shakthi and also coins with their pictures engraved are found; along with this many Shivalinka idols are also engrained. Their appearance resembles the Shivan idols found in Babylonia. All these proves that during ancient period, Shiva worship and Shivan temples existed in these places. In Greece the rituals of Shiva worship still exists even today. They place the idols of Shivalingham in a holy common place and apply oil to them during their worship. This kind of worship were found during period of 4th B.C. says the Greece Philosopher named Thiyapiracius.

Sivalingha idols were also found in Rome, and the Romans spread this Linga worship all over Western Europe. There are so many proves for this.

When the Europeans went to America for the first time, they observed Shiva worship to be in common Mexico and Peru, Haiti. More of Shivalingha idols were found there. In this ancient table land hill, named Shivan, there is an ancient Shivan temple which is nearly Ten Thousand years old, says the archeological researchers. The following scholar’s gives clear idols of the familiarity of Shiva worship Shivan temples among the people who loved in the above mentioned countries. The respects scholars are :-

Arthur Lily – Tailor, Palpoor, Gilberd, Slalter, Celonaly, Doduadel, Stefanson, Criyarson and Mukkargi. These scholars have proved in many ways that Saivsm was ancient and followed by the ancient people of so many countries.

Infact worship of Shiva thus prevailed in countries like West Asia, Greece, Rome, from ancient times. But as time passed later people forgot the past history of this religion and started giving imaginary idols about this religious worship says Arthur Lilly.

On the whole there are evidences to prove that Shivalinga worship prevailed in in all possible countries and it still remains in certain countries like China, Japan, and Pacific Islands and so on still this worship exists says the great scholar Mukaji.

To conclude, what all we learnt from the evidences are that Saivaism is not created by one individual and Saivaism in ancient like Lord Shiva Himself and he great Shiva destroyed all his creations during the Sarvasankarakalam and he again creates the same after a certain period when the souls realizes what his almighty is thus the feeling of such eixtances followed among the people of Sinthuveli also who belonged to Sangakalam. These people also felt and worshipped the so many Muhurththams of Lord Shiva. Hinduism this term also includes also the other religions aspects namely Saivism Vairavam and Sakththam. It is important to understand that the term “Hinduism” does not indicate only religions such as Saivaism. It includes of the above mentioned 3 religions too.
